Approved Destination Status stream
The visa most Vietnamese visitors use: holidays, visiting children and grandchildren, weddings or short business trips. It has Tourist, Sponsored Family and Business Visitor streams. You need to show you will go home at the end and can pay for the trip.
This visa stream is for citizens from certain areas of China visiting Australia on a tour organised by an approved travel agent.

With this visa you can
- visit Australia as part of a tour group
You must:
- be a citizen of the People’s Republic of China
- intend to travel to Australia as part of a tour organised by an approved travel agent
- contact an approved travel agent to ask for them to apply for this visa on your behalf. For more information, see our Step by step guide.
About this visa
With this visa you can
- can enter Australia with your approved tour group
- can participate in activities that are part of your tour
- must leave Australia with your tour group before your visa expires
How long you can stay
This is a temporary visa. If we grant you a visa we will let you know how long you can stay in your visa grant letter. We consider the length of your tour when we determine your stay period.
We grant the visa with either:
- single entry. If you leave Australia you will have to apply for another visa to come back
- multiple entry. You can leave and re-enter Australia on this visa while it is valid
Include family
You can't include family members in your application. A separate application must be made for each member of your family, including those listed on your passport.

Cost
The visa costs AUD250.00.
You might also have to pay other costs for health checks, police certificates and biometrics.

Have repaid debt to the Australian Government
If you or any family members (including those who don't apply for the visa with you) owe the Australian government money, you or they must have paid it back or arranged to pay it back.
Be a genuine visitor
You must only intend to:
- stay temporarily in Australia
- obey any condition and stay period attached to your visa
Best interests of the child
We might not grant this visa if it is not in the best interests of an applicant under 18.

1Before you apply
Organise health exams
You might need to have health examinations. You can complete them before you apply or you can wait until we tell you to have them.

2Gather your documents
Provide accurate information

Identity documents
Provide the pages of your current People's Republic of China passport showing your photo, personal details, and passport issue and expiry dates.
Also provide:
- a national identity card, if you have one
- proof of change of name
Documents that prove a change of name include:
- a marriage or divorce certificate
- change of name documents from an Australian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, or the relevant overseas authority
- documents that show other names you have been known by
Additional documents for applicants 75 years old or older
Provide:
- evidence of health insurance to cover your stay in Australia
- your Yellow Book
Additional documents for applicants under 18
You must get consent for any applicant under 18 years of age to migrate to Australia from anyone who:
- has a legal right to decide where the child lives and
- is not coming to Australia with the child
They must complete either:
- Form 1229 Consent form to grant an Australian visa to a child under the age of 18 years
- a statutory declaration giving their consent for the child to visit Australia on this visa
Alternatively, you can show us:
- an Australian court order that allows your child to migrate to Australia, or
- that the laws of your home country allow them to migrate
Include:
- an identity document that shows the signature and photo of the person who completed the form or declaration, such as a passport or driver’s licence
- adoption papers or other court documents if applicable
Prepare your documents
Translate
Have all non-English documents translated into English.
Provide original and translated documents in your application.
Translators in Australia must be accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters.
Translators outside Australia do not have to be accredited. But on each translation, they must include their:
- full name
- address and telephone number
- qualifications and experience in the language they are translating
These details must be in English.
You do not need to have any documents certified unless we ask you to.
3Apply for the visa
You need to contact a registered Approved Destination Status scheme travel agent to ask for them to apply for this visa on your behalf. Your travel agent must be registered with the Approved Destination Status scheme.

4After you apply
What will happen after you apply
We will let you know when we have received your application and documents.
There are other things you need to know and might need to do.
Travel
Don't make arrangements to travel to Australia until you know you have been granted the visa.
Health exams
If you did not have health examinations before you applied, we will let you know if you need them.
Send more information
If you did not send us all documents when you applied, send them as soon as you can.
We might also ask you to provide more information.
Mistakes on your application
Let your travel agent know as soon as you can if you made a mistake on your application.
Tell us if things change
Tell your travel agent if things change after you lodge your application but before we have made a decision.
Things you need to let them know about include:
- you want to withdraw your application
- changes to your phone number, address or passport
- changes to your relationship status
- the birth of a child
5Visa outcome
We will let your travel agent know our decision about your visa application. We will send them a visa grant letter with:
- your visa grant number
- the date your visa starts
- your visa conditions
You might like to get a copy of the letter to keep with you when in Australia.
If we refuse your visa we will let you know by email. We will tell you why we refused and whether you have a right to a review of the decision.
We will not refund the application fee if we refuse your application.
