Translation and the NAATI CCL test

A useful translation helps the reader understand the information in a document and what you intend to explain. I assist with Vietnamese–English material for migration purposes, arrange appropriately certified translators when required and provide NAATI CCL preparation for people seeking additional skilled migration points.

Translation for migration purposes

Non-English documents submitted to Home Affairs need an English translation. Translations completed in Australia require a NAATI-certified translator; overseas translations need the translator's name, contact details and qualifications. I hold an Advanced Diploma of Translating from RMIT University and assist with civil records, police certificates, academic and employment records, statements and correspondence. Where NAATI certification is required, I arrange for an appropriately certified translator to complete the work.

A statement should retain the facts, uncertainty and personal meaning of the original account. English may need a different sentence structure from Vietnamese, but that is not a reason to add promises or make the facts sound more definite. I aim for a readable account that you recognise as your own.

NAATI CCL coaching

The NAATI CCL test assesses the ability to interpret dialogue in everyday settings. Vietnamese–English candidates interpret in both directions across two dialogues, which may concern health, education, housing, legal or community matters. An eligible result can support a five-point skilled migration claim. It is not professional translator or interpreter certification. Preparation focuses on keeping the meaning complete, accurate and clear.

Sessions cover vocabulary by topic, note-taking, individual segments and complete dialogues. Feedback identifies omitted information, changes in meaning and unclear expression, giving you specific areas to practise. Course dates and formats are available through Facebook or by email.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a NAATI translation for every document?

Home Affairs requires a NAATI-certified translator for translations completed in Australia. Overseas translations require the translator's identifying and qualification details. I check the requirements for the documents and arrange the appropriate translator where needed.
